Types of citrus fruits: do you really know them all?

titolo post

Did you know that in addition to the classic oranges, lemons and limes, there are also many other types of citrus fruits? Each has its own characteristics, but there are many common elements: they generally taste sour and contain important amounts of vitamins, including C.

Ready? Let's see them together!

Lemon

One of the most beloved and famous citrus fruits in the world. It has an unmistakable aroma and acidity that is highly appreciated in cooking. Try our world-famous Lemon Spelt Cake!

Lime

The famous tropical citrus fruit. It is smaller than lemon, green and definitely sweeter.

Orange and bitter orange

.

Fruits known for their abundance of vitamins A and C, which are useful in boosting the immune system.

Clementine

Agrume very similar to a tangerine but slightly sweeter.

Mandarin

Smaller than oranges, tangerines have a distinctly distinctive flavor. They also contain more fiber and sugar than clementines.

Grapefruit

Appreciated especially for making juice, grapefruit is a citrus fruit native to West India.

Bergamot

It is a citrus fruit with fantastic aromatic notes. It is rarely used fresh and is the base of many preparations, from infusions to perfumes.

Finger Lime

One of the most popular citrus fruits of the moment. The reason? Inside it we find many tiny pearls that enclose the juice: that's why it is also called "lime caviar".

Kumquat

The Kumquat, or also Chinese tangerine, is small but has a very intense flavor. It is usually eaten whole because it is too small to remove the peel.

Kaffir Lime

Very few people are familiar with this citrus fruit. As an appearance it has a warty outer peel and not smooth like the lime. Its juice is too sour to be eaten fresh and it is preferred to be used to give freshness to dishes. Its leaves are also used in cooking.

Pomelo

The pomelo is the oldest citrus fruit cultivated by man. It does not have a spherical shape and is the largest among citrus fruits.

Chedron

Cedron is 70% peel: that's why it is used to make delicious candied fruit or drinks.

Calamond

It is a cross between the tangerine and the kumquat. Although the fruit is edible, the plant is usually used only for ornamental purposes.

Chinotto

Many people do not know that the chinotto is a citrus fruit. Its juice is very bitter and acidic, which is why it is mostly used for drinks, jams or syrups.

Mapo

Mapo is a cross between tangerine and grapefruit. Its taste is very tart, with some hints of tangerine. On the outside it has a green color (be careful not to mistake it for a lime) but on the inside it is a wonderful orange.

Buddha Hand

Surely the strangest citrus fruit of all. Each of its cloves develops as if it were unique, leading to the formation of small "tentacles." Buddha's Hand is a variety of citron composed entirely of peel, so it is perfect both raw and for making specific products, such as candied fruit.
