Oats: does it contain gluten?

The excellent nutritional properties of this cereal have been known since ancient times, when oats were reserved for weaning children and feeding athletes. Compared with other grains, it has very high protein intake and a low glycemic index. It boasts a high content of fiber and beta-glucans, which help promote the digestive process, increase satiety and maintain normal blood cholesterol levels. But the properties of oats do not end there.
What about in the presence of gluten allergies or intolerances? Can those who suffer from celiac disease eat oats?
Oats are naturally gluten-free and lend themselves well to many preparations as a substitute for wheat flours, from baked goods to cakes and cookies. Given the recognized benefits of this cereal, the AIC Scientific Committee has come out in favor of the consumption of oats even by gluten-intolerant individuals, as long as producers are able to ensure the absence of contamination during the production cycle with other gluten-containing cerals, such as wheat, rye and barley.
In Italy to date only a few producers are able to guarantee these standards, so there are not many brands in the supermarket with certified gluten-free oats. We at Germinal Bio, being able to rely on a total control of our supply chains and thanks to the more than 5,000 laboratory tests on raw materials and finished products commissioned each year to accredited external bodies, we can guarantee a rich selection of safe and certified gluten-free oat-based products.
